A little history about artificial turf

Not many people know that one of the first uses of artificial turf was in major league baseball in the Houston Astrodome in 1966. The artificial turf replaced the grass field that the facility had opened with a year earlier. Even though the grass was specifically bread for indoor use, the dome’s transparent ceiling panes did not pass enough sunlight to support the grass. Thus, for much of the 1965 season, the Astros played on green painted dirt and dead grass. What was the solution? By the time the Astros played in July 1966, the installation of beautiful, tough and long-wearing artificial turf was installed.
